The Five Advantages of Shopping at a Mall

“Shopping malls are liquid TVs for the end of the twentieth century. A whole micro-circuitry of desire, ideology and expenditure for processed bodies drifting through the cyber-space of ultracapitalism.” -Arthur Kroker

With the modernization of technology and advent of online shopping, it seems like visiting shopping malls would be rendered obsolete. And yet even today, we see long queues in cashier counters, people milling about in various sections of the store, or individuals just basically hanging out in the mall. It seems that even with the universal rise in popularity of online shopping, malls have remained relevant—and rightly so. While shopping from your computer might afford you the convenience of accessing online shops anytime and anywhere you want, it does have several pitfalls which no wary shopper would want to risk. This is not to say that online shopping is all that bad, but where convenience is sacrificed in a physical shopping, a risk is also involved in its online counterpart. However, there is also a myriad of benefits that comes with shopping in a mall, here are a few of them:

1.) There are lots of people to meet

If you are particularly friendly, you will find that the mall is an ideal place to meet people. Regardless of which Manila shopping mall you might visit, you are guaranteed to find a slew of people milling about anywhere. However, if you cannot work up the nerve to come up to people and talk to them, the mall is also an excellent place for people watching—a rather commonplace and entertaining activity done by individuals who find themselves without company while shopping.

2.) You can try on/test out before buying

One of the biggest advantages mall shopping has over online shopping is the fact that you can try on the clothes you want to buy or test out appliances you are looking to purchase. There is nothing more infuriating than waiting for weeks at a time only to have a dysfunctional product sent to your doorstep, or clothes that would not fit. Another great perk of a mall? Unlike online shopping, you need not wait. Whatever you buy, you can use immediately.

3.) You can do so much more than just shop

Most shopping malls nowadays have integrated a lifestyle design into their malls so much so that visitors would find themselves doing more than just plain shopping. Today, the mall is a popular place for friends to converge and catch up, watch a movie together with family and even an ideal place for business seminars and conferences. Apart from that, if you are a food enthusiast, visiting the mall will give you a unique dining option. As a foodie, going to the mall is an opportunity to choose from a wide selection of restaurants (at times from all over the globe).

4.) It is a one stop shop

With gas prices at an all-time high and with no signs of decreasing, individuals need to make economic choices when it comes to the places they visit so as to preserve their gas tank’s mileage. Fortunately, most shopping malls house everything shoppers need under one roof—only requiring them to walk from one end to another in the same establishment. One example of this ingenious concept is SM malls incorporation of billing and government agencies in their malls. This means shoppers would not need to make two trips should they want to get their driving licenses renewed and transact with another government entity.

5.) Bargains, Deals, and Discounts

Although you would have to contend with a throng of people, malls can offer you excellent bargains, deals, and discounts—most especially on sale days. However, to ensure that you can take full advantage of these bargains, come a bit earlier so that all the good stuff would still be available.
