ATV Riding: Essentials Every Rider Should Have With Him

“Jobs fill your pocket, adventures fill your soul.” -Jaime Lyn Beatty

Today, ATV riding has been something most outdoor enthusiasts and casual adventurers enjoy. With ATV in the Philippines slowly getting popularity traction, more and more individuals have found themselves willing to try this sport. However, no self-respecting rider whether seasoned or novice would ever get on an ATV without having the most basic essentials he or she should have with him. Your safety throughout the experience is of paramount importance after all. So, on your next ATV ride, never start the ignition without making sure you have the stuff below well and prepared.

1. Helmet

First and foremost, you should never get on an ATV without wearing a full-faced helmet. Like motorcycles, getting on an ATV means that you have every chance of getting thrown off by it–even more so considering that the ATV is mostly used on dirt paths and off roads. With this in mind, it is important to keep your head and face protected with a helmet so that should anything untoward occur, your skull and face would remain intact.

2. Protective Clothing

When you are ATV riding, you are mostly exposed to the outside elements which mean you are incredibly vulnerable to injuries even when the most minor accidents occur. A full gear would require you to wear gloves, long pants, sleeves, and boots. Your eyes would need protection as well so it would be an excellent idea to have goggles on as well. Remember that it is always better to come prepared–even if it means you have to suffer through layers of protective clothing. Wearing boots in lieu of sandals, for example, can mean the difference between a big gash and a scratch on your ankle.

3. Cellphone and Charger

You might think that arming yourself with your cellular phone and charger might be counterintuitive to your plan to get away from it all. But keeping them close by might potentially save your life in case something happens. In the event that your ATV experiences mechanical issues or when worse comes to worse when you have health issues, a simple call to your loved ones would make it easier for them to locate you. Additionally, text messages would often get through when the cell signals are weak. A good phone is a must-have gadget for every ATV rider because once your engine fails somewhere down the road, you will be grateful you brought it along.

4. First Aid Kit

Having a first-aid kid of any kind with you is better than having no first aid kit at all. You might think you would not need it, but you will never know when you do. It is always better to come prepared and just like your helmet, it is there whenever something unexpected occurs such as injuries and accidents. You want to make sure you have this in your vehicle before even starting your ride.

5.  Air Pump and Tire Plugs

Unlike getting a flat tire on the road while out doing your errands, when your ATV’s tire gets flat, you cannot simply call a service to come and fix it–most especially if you are on off-road terrain miles away from a tire shop. Seeing as you would need to rely only on yourself, then it would make sense for you come with an air pump and tire plugs. A small 12-volt air compressor and a simple patch kit would be the answer to your problems should you ever get a flat tire driving off-road in an ATV.
