Technology 101: Compelling Reasons Why People Use The Internet

Back in the day, when the Internet was still an uncommon luxury exclusive only to those to who can afford it, no one would have imagined the colossal and significant impact it has on the world today. Today, it is almost as if the Internet is a universal commodity and every household has one. It has become an excellent medium to connect with people from all over the world, and is seen as a great avenue for expanding research and providing valuable information. Moreover, the Internet is seen as a means for entertainment and other activities. With all these considered, it can easily be seen that Internet access has been seen and regarded as somewhat of a household convenience–so much so, that living in a home without fast Internet access would almost be unimaginable. In this regard, it would be best if people reviewed and revisited the myriad of reasons why individuals utilize this powerful technology:

1.) Information

The internet is a vast holder of various information. With this in consideration, most people access the Internet to know about such information. They use different search engines and input whatever query they have into the search bar. Google and Yahoo are both excellent search engine websites. Furthermore, people no longer need to possess the complete collection of Encarta’s Encyclopedia as today, Wikipedia exists as a complete online encyclopedia free for online users to access.

2.) Social networking

Of course, people take advantage of the Internet to expand their social circle and befriend strangers. In the same vein, they also use the Internet to keep up with the lives of far-flung relatives and friends through social media platforms. Social media juggernauts and such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have long been considered as the social network trifecta. Each other them have distinct features unique to each. But they all have the universal feature of connecting you to friends and strangers all over the world.

3.)  Communication

Without Internet access, people only relied on snail mail delivery systems to communicate with family and loved ones overseas. Today, all one would seemingly need is an internet connection as well as a device that can connect to it. From there, all you would need then is to access mail services such as Gmail, Yahoomail, AOL and Hotmail to send and receive files and maintain correspondence.

3.) Know the current buzz

Whether one wishes to know the current basketball scores, what is trending in the celebrity world or just general news, Internet access gives you all the latest scoop. In fact, your local newspaper probably has a website where you can check quick news out. In this regard, you no longer need to purchase a newspaper and simply just read on the latest news online.

4.) Entertainment

The internet is an excellent source of entertainment with video streaming websites such as Youtube, Netflix and the like. Today, people can see movies online simply by streaming them. If you wish to watch them again and again, you can simply download these movies onto  your computer so that you can watch them again whenever you wish. Alternatively, if movies are not your thing, you can play online games as well and play with other players from all over the world.

5.) Shopping

Today, one no longer needs to step out of the house simply to do some shopping. With internet access, you can easily browse and purchase products online. All you would need to do is find the online counterpart of your favorite shop. Keep in mind that you may have to wait for a while before it arrives though.
