It is important to know that Budapest is divided into several street parking zones with different fees, depending on what zone you are.

Castle Hill, Margaret Island and Downtown Pest are restricted areas for cars. Most parts of downtown Pest (the area between the Danube and the Grand Boulevard) and the area surrounding Castle Hill (from Erzsebet Bridge to Margit Bridge on the Buda side) belong to Zone 1. The parking fee here is HUF 440 per hour. The parking should be paid from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. In Zone 2, most parts of Budapest and the area outside of the Grand Boulevard, the parking fee is HUF 265 per hour. It is paid from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Other areas belong to Zone 3, where parking is HUF 175 per hour and it applies from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Parking Fees:

Zone 1 – HUF 440 /hour, weekdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., max. 3 hours. (This is the area between the Danube and the Grand Boulevard in Pest, and the area surrounding Castle Hill in Buda).

Zone 2 – HUF 265 /hour, weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., max. 3 hours. (The territory includes the most parts of Buda and the area outside of the Grand Boulevard in Pest).

Zone 3 – HUF 175 /hour, weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., max. 3 hours. (All over the city).

Parking Ticket

The parking tickets must be purchased from the nearest parking meter and they need to be displayed on the dashboard. You can use both, cash (HUF) or credit cards for parking meters. There is a special online option, so-called Mobile Parking. You can pay from your phone as well. The registration to pay by phone is via SMS (you text your license plate number to the phone number indicated on the sticker and you text ‘stop’ when you wish to finish parking). Online payment is very convenient option. So, you should check it with your mobile provider in advance to find out whether they are part of the Mobile Parking program and if there is an extra fee for using the service.

Budapest Airport Parking

Budapest Airport offers both, terminal parking and long term parking.

Terminal Parking

Located at Budapest Airport T2, just across from the terminal building, terminal parking is a perfect possibility for picking-up or dropping-off a passenger. Parking is free for less than 10 minutes. The airport parking meters take cash (HUF) only. If you wish to pay by credit card, there is a payment kiosk located in the middle of the parking lot.

Budapest Airport offers several long term parking options. Park & Fly is the cheapest, but it requires advance online booking from the airport website. Holiday Parking is another affordable long term parking. It is about a 10-minutes walking from the terminal. Holiday Plus Parking is only a 5-minutes walking. Business Parking comes with free shuttle service to 2A and 2B.
