Drivers are unable to pay the loan amount lower income and incentives

The on demand taxi hailing service has gained more popularity over the years because of the economic price and the availability of the service to places even where the public transport is not available. Most of the people depend on the ridesharing services in the busiest hours of the day.

Ridesharing mobile app

The ridesharing companies use the mobile application to connect the cab drivers and riders. The riders can download the car sharing app on their mobile device and register themselves on the app. After registering themselves on the app, the riders can instantly book their ride using the app along the estimate cost of their ride.

To book a ride, the rider must enter the pickup and drop location in the app and send the request. The drivers in the nearby area will receive the request and if they accept the ride, it will be notified to the riders. While booking the ride, the riders can choose the type of ride they wish to hail in as there are various ride options like normal cars to luxurious cars. With the help of the app it is easy for the riders to book the ride, the ride can either choose to book a ride immediately or they can also schedule the ride for later.

While booking the ride, the driver details appear on the screen so that the rider can decide whether to choose the ride or not. At the end of the ride, the riders can make payment using the digital card, credit or debit card.

Car sharing mobile app drivers

People who own a car and wish to work with the ridesharing service can register with the service and start their job as a driver for the car sharing company. The drivers have to pay certain percent of their profit to the company and they can keep the rest of their earnings with them. During the peak hours, the drivers can earn double the amount than the normal timings.

The riders will rate the drivers depending on their experience, similarly the riders can also rate the passengers and the riders can decide whether to choose the ride or they can even deny the ride. The drivers can ride the service according to their convenience; however they have to work for six to eight hours a day.

Ridesharing company provides reliable service

The reason for most of the people to prefer the ridesharing company is that they need not worry about the location, price or any other problems they face from the taxi industry service. The taxi service is not available in all the locations and they do not ride taxis after certain time, but the ridesharing service provides the riders with a reliable service. Irrespective of the time, the riders can request for a ride any time and they will surely get a ride service and the ridesharing service not only operates in the urban areas, but it also operates its service in the sub urban and rural areas and benefits all the riders.

The ridesharing companies offer the riders and the drivers with various incentives and discounts, so the riders prefer the ridesharing service over the taxi service. Sometimes the cost of the ride will be only half the price of the actual cost.

The ridesharing service allows carpooling. The carpooling is nothing but a ride shared by two or more people traveling in the same direction, so if four people share their ride they have to pay only for their ride and save more rather than traveling alone. By adapting to the carpooling service, the number of cars travelling on the road will be lesser and will reduce the pollution rate. This is an eco friendly method where it saves fuel and reduces the space allocated for parking.

The service has automated billing system, so the riders need not bargain with the drivers about the cost and simply pay the bill amount without any worries. The generated bill will contain the details of the driver, cab number, the pickup and destination detail, the kilometers travelled and the cost of the ride. Since some of the people do not have access to the digital cards, the ridesharing company also accepts cash payment.

App drivers form a team

The drivers of the popular ridesharing company Ola and Uber have joined hands together in the metro cities and are protesting against the reduction of the incentives and fares that has affected the livelihood of the drivers.

The drivers from both the companies have halted their service on Friday in the national capital, Delhi and the drivers have stopped the service early this week in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Because of the protest by the drivers, commuter in all the major cities of the nation experienced a shortage in the cab service. During the peak hours, the company introduces the surge pricing by which the drivers will receive more than the normal rate, so both the ridesharing company decided to introduce the surge pricing- thinking that the drivers will break the strike. But the drivers did not withdraw from the protest and continued it.

According to an Ola driver, the company pays the drivers seventy rupees for an eight kilometer ride and the drivers spend more money on the fuel than their everyday payment. The drivers will receive an incentive only when they ride for a certain kilometer. And there is more number of cabs and cab drivers are available, but the demand for the ride becomes less and they weekly payments have decreased, and the decrease in the income received from the shared rides is further burdening the drives. Most of the drivers riding for the ridesharing service have bought the cab on car loans and this kind of low income will not be sufficient for them to pay their loan amount and take care of their daily expense.

Similarly an Uber driver compliant that they receive only six rupees for a kilometer and the monthly income has gone down. The same driver has earned about one lakh per month in 2015, but with less demand and more supply and lower intensive rates the overall earnings this year is only half of the income from last year.

While the Uber spokesman claims that because of the new feature like the uberPool the company has saved 1.5 M liters of fuel and reduced about 3.5 M kgs of carbon dioxide emission over the thirty two million kilometers. Furthermore, Ola is supporting a campaign in support of the car sharing service in the social network media. By combining Uber and Ola, ridesharing service, there are about one lakh fifty thousand drivers in the country of which atleast fifty thousand drivers from the car sharing company are involved in the strike

People are stranded on the streets

Because of the protest by the drivers, the common people and the tradition commuters of the ridesharing company suffered a lot since the beginning of the strike. Some of the companies pay the transportation fare for the employees; so many people in the metro prefer the car sharing company than the public transports or transits.

But the continuous strike by the cab drivers has affected the regular activities of the public who depends on this service. A complaint regarding the issue is written to the Prime Minister’s office, hopping that the poor drivers will be given justice.
