“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day. Do not clean it up too quickly” -Andy Romney
As the most wonderful time of the year is looming over us in a week, some of us are doing some last minute Christmas preparation and Christmas shopping for gifts. Knowing how inundated with people the mall would be a week prior to Christmas Day, doing some last minute shopping would be nothing short of daunting. Long lines and busy traffic are to be expected that even the holiday deals would not compensate for the unnecessary stress it would inevitably cost you. However, there are ways of making your last minute Christmas shopping spree less complicated regardless of whether you are shopping in a major mall such as Glorietta or somewhere more obscure. This holiday season, take a deep breath and follow these tips and tricks to make your shopping hassle-free.
1.) Scout ahead
Days or even weeks prior to your designated shopping day, scout your mall of choices for items you would want to purchase. Doing it this way expedites the entire shopping process as you would not have to spend extra time deciding what to get. List the items you will potentially buy and just in case they would get sold out, then write down an alternative as well.
2.) Start early
This one should be a no-brainer, but since we are already a week away from Christmas (and considering that most sales and holiday deals do not come till much later), then you might consider coming early to the mall instead. Instead of coming in on midday where the throngs of shoppers will probably overwhelm the counters and display areas, opt to start your shopping a little early–if possible, as soon as the mall opens.
3.) Make a list
Take it from the big guy in the red suit who does Christmas gift giving best and make a list. Your list should contain all the people you are shopping for which would be incredibly helpful and useful in figuring out what to get them ahead of time. This list would also enable you to figure out your shopping priorities ahead of time. Having a list would not only make your Christmas gift shopping faster, but it will help you stick to a realistic budget.
4.) Shop online
Considering the hordes of shoppers milling inside the malls, it would be wise to consider online shopping as an alternative. After all, there are no lines and you would not even need to get out of your seat just to do it. However, you would have to be extra careful and meticulous as regards their delivery policy. See that they deliver within your desired timeframe or you might have to come empty-handed on Christmas Day or worse, never get your package at all.
5.) Give gift cards
Though they are not exactly creative and original, gift cards are incredibly practical not only for you but for the recipient as well. It would significantly cut down your stress and shopping time and also give your giftees the opportunity to choose the gifts they truly want. Lastly, gift cards are the better alternative to flat out giving money.
